PRINCE2™ (Accredited Courses)
Given that projects are the means by which we introduce business change, by its very nature, project work exposes an organisation to a higher degree of risk than normal business activity. It therefore follows that implementing a proven, consistent secure approach to Project Management is a valuable business investment.
PRINCE2™ delivers just that. It is a methodology which is THE standard used in over 200 countries worldwide to provide a consistent approach and appropriate level of control over projects. It is truly generic and can be applied to any project regardless of size, scale, industry sector, organisation or culture.
It achieves this by isolating the management activities of project work from the specialist skills such as design or construction. Therefore it is not necessarily a competitor to other recognised approaches, but can work in synergy, providing the structure and control over project work, whilst other credentials or disciplines can be used to deliver the specialist aspects.
Most Projects success is judged on whether or not they deliver on time and within budget, but PRINCE2 is more sophisticated providing control over six aspects of project performance including the project scope, Quality – ensuring the products delivered are fit for purpose, Risk and project benefits as well as cost and timescale.
The methodology is structured using 4 integrated elements.
- The foundation is the 7 principles, or rules which must be observed to be a PRINCE2™ Project.
- Built on there are the 7 Themes or disciplines which are common to every project such as business case, Risk, change, quality and progress to name just a few.
- Central and common to both of these elements are 7 processes or sets of activities that guide the project step by step through its life-cycle.
- Finally, we have the 4th integrated element, the ability to tailor PRINCE2™ to suit the project environment giving the flexibility that enables it to be adapted to fit any project regardless of size, complexity, risk level or industry sector.
Some of the key benefits of the methodology include –
- Its embodiment of proven best practice
- It is widely recognised & understood and therefore provides a common vocabulary
- It clearly lays out the responsibilities of all members of the project management team
- It is product-focused clarifying first what exactly is to be delivered and then how this will happen, when and by whom,
- And finally, it constantly focuses on the viability of the project in relation to its business case objectives not just from the outset, but this business justification is constantly reviewed and re-assessed right throughout the life of the project.
Accreditation
Accreditation* (and therefore courses) are available at two levels. Foundation level is a three day course covering the theory of the methodology in preparation for the one hour multiple choice exam which is taken at the end of Day 3.
Practitioner, covered as a two day course following on from Foundation examines candidates’ ability to apply what they have learned through Foundation and this is examined through a 2.5 hour complex multiple choice exam taken in the afternoon of the final day.
*NOTE: All training materials approved by, and exam Accreditation is provided by Association of Project Management Group Ltd. (APMG) through our partner accredited training organisation (ATO) Sureskills for all accredited courses. Non-accredited courses may be tailored specifically to meet the client’s requirements.
